So out of 2 Landrover Discovery 5's I drove within 2 months of each other both had timing chain issues. Cannot be a coincidence . JRL have an issue that is manifesting about now as avg mileage on 2017 is around the 45,000 to 50,000 mark. Watch out for 'Engine Oil Critically Low 'warning and get it to a garage sooner rather than later.
Unless your lucky enough to find the cause is oil contamination (easily cleaned) or an obvious wiring issue, then you need to get ut plugged into a diagnostic reader and see if there is/are fault codes logged. As said, the D2 TD5 is not OBD2/EOBD compliant as it predates it. Find somebody with Nanocom etc.

I have a 2003 Discovery II S that, during inclement weather, leaks water into the cabin near the passenger side A-frame down pillar / windshield seal / roof rails / etc. I mention all these causes because even Land Rover Certified Dealerships cannot determine with certainty what is causing the leak.

Engine Failure on 3.0lt SDV6 help. The other preventative measure which I think can’t do any harm is to replace the harmonic balancer when ever the timing belt is replaced (or even every 100,000kms). A low cost part and simple to change out. 19th September 2020, 10:52 AM #33. INter674.

Pull up the door sills on the Driver/Passenger doorways and feel under the carpet for moisture and while your there look for rust or crusty/dull looking wiring in the drivers doorsill.
